Merino wool care

WELCOME TO MERINO WOOL!

Have you just adopted your first SEAGALE garment? Before wearing your new adventure companion, we'll give you all our tips for caring for it and keeping it looking its best for as long as possible . Extrafine merino wool needs no introduction.

Optimized thermoregulation, quick drying, very soft touch, it brings together all the imaginable advantages for a high-end garment.

But quality products require quality care. Here are our top tips for caring for merino wool.

WASHING A MERINO WOOL GARMENT

Since merino wool does not absorb odors for a long time, you do not need to wash your clothes immediately after each use.

So, in the case of a normal day without sports activity or intense heat, you can wear an Action Merino T-Shirt for five days without any problem.

SHOULD YOU HAND WASH YOUR CLOTHES?

Not necessarily, wool definitely has only advantages: you can wash your merino wool product in the washing machine, on a gentle cycle, at 30°C. If you insist on handwashing your piece, keep these few notes handy:

- Favor gentle, slow, and circular movements.

- Avoid twisting the fibers.

- Do not exceed a water temperature of 30°C. Good practices for machine washing

- The washing program must be kept at a maximum of 500 revolutions per minute.

- Use specialized detergent for delicate wool .

- Avoid fabric softener.

- Separate the materials : synthetic with synthetic, cotton with cotton, wool with wool.

- Leave space in the drum, do not fill it to the brim.

DRYING MERINO WOOL

Your favorite product is now spotlessly clean. To dry it, there's one golden rule to remember: never tumble dry . It severely damages the fibers and breaks their bonds, and therefore, mechanically, your product.

Always dry flat, on a clothesline, in a dry place or room. Allow four or five hours on average for your product to be completely dry (this time varies depending on several factors: other materials in the composition, thickness, etc.).

CAN IT BE IRONED?

Merino wool fibers are extra-fine and, by definition, very delicate. Ironing all of our garments must therefore be just as delicate.

Choose a steam-free ironing mode , limiting the heat, to ensure you don't risk burning the said fibers; you will be able to iron all your favorite pieces without any hassle.

The icing on the cake : merino wool is a material that naturally regains its shape, you will have the pleasure of faster ironing compared to cotton.

OUR STORAGE TIPS AGAINST MOTHS

Moths love wool. They nibble at it at a crazy pace, and often, by the time you notice them, it's already too late. Don't worry, Seagale has all the solutions to protect your rooms from these pests.

- Use an airtight container or resealable cover to store your coins.

- Hang on a hanger for a triple benefit: moths will have more difficulty accessing the product than if it were folded, air will circulate better to restore freshness, and creases will disappear by themselves under the effect of the mesh's own weight.

- Place dried lavender / cedar wood chunks (see our red cedar circles here) in the closet; these materials act as a natural moth repellent.

HOW TO REMOVE A STAIN FROM MERINO WOOL?

Don't delay!

Prepare a basin of warm water and specialized wool detergent, lightly rub your wool, and repeat the operation.

When the stain is gone, blot lightly and spread your product.

PILLING OF A MERINO SWEATER

Your item may pill simply due to friction, wear and tear, and the life of the product.

To counter this, we suggest you apply a pill razor , specially designed to restore the original appearance of your product.

Do not try to pull on the pills , you risk tearing the fibers more than anything else.
