Focus on... linen: the fiber that will change your summer

Discover why linen is the fiber of the past, present and future.

Discover why linen is the fiber of the past, present and future.

Linen is the oldest fiber in the world and continues to find new uses across different areas such as sport or habitat. Today, we are going to demonstrate to you the many points that make flax a future fiber.

Here are the many benefits of flax that we will present:

-  Refreshing

-  Dry quickly

-  Anti-allergenic

-  Durable

-  Easily washable

-  Biodegradable

REFRESHING

It is not necessarily the most original point that we are now introducing to you but it is indeed the number one feature of linen.

The open structure of linen offers unmatched breathability that gives your body a feeling of freshness regardless of humidity or heat.

Its high permeability against the air allows the latter to circulate freely, coming to refresh you without you even realizing it. This characteristic makes it an essential element of your wardrobe for the summer and its high temperatures.

FAST DRYING

Linen always stays dry in the wettest situations.

This fiber is known for its power of water absorption. A relevant property of the hydrophilic character of pectins, compounds that associate the fibers together.

These pectins found in linen clothing, give them a living character, they gorged or free water and are able to absorb up to 20% of their weight in moisture without causing a wet feeling and help the clothes to keep this aspect dry and pleasant during hot weather.

ANTI-ALLERGENIC

This material will adapt to all skin thanks to its naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties that provide the person using it with a soothing sensation linked to properties inherent to the quality of the fiber, already observed for thousands of years with people with skin prone to irritation of any type.

DURABLE

Its stretched and airy appearance can leave you predicting the worst in its durability?

It is not the case, linen is the most resistant natural fiber.

It is not for nothing that the latter has been used for so many years through clothing and fabrics of all kinds.
Length is a good indicator of the resilience of a fiber, the latter is an internal component specific to Liberian fibers (fibers in the stem of the plant), these fibers make linen textiles flexible and resistant and allow it to avoid lint or deformity.

With modern technical developments and the constant search for environmentally friendly products made out of natural and high-performance materials, there are combinations of linen fibers that are alternatives to fiberglass in order to design sports equipment such as bicycles, snowshoes, tennis or ski equipment.

EASILY WASHABLE

Linen like cashmere is one of the few materials to soften with time and washes.

Can your basic cotton T-shirt say the same after twenty washes?

This fiber still requires special maintenance (every delicate fabrics does need it, right?). A low temperature wash and spin at less than 700 rpm is recommended in our case.

NATURAL, BIODEGRADABLE AND RENEWABLE

Linen production is today mostly (80%) from European agriculture (France, Belgium, the Netherlands).

All Seagale linen items are made with 100% French linen that grows in Normandy. Resulting from a natural process, linen has a unique and highly envied ecological profile: zero irrigation, zero GMOs and zero waste. Nothing is lost in linen, whether through its seeds or its fibers, linen is eaten, worn and can even be used as insulation.

When you buy a linen shirt rather than cotton you save the equivalent of 13 bottles of 1.5L.

It is equal to the water that a human need to live for two weeks!

Linen is an incomparable and unavoidable fabric used by man for thousands of years. The ways of exploiting it evolve constantly offering infinite possibilities of creation. Resulting from a process respectful of the environment and having unique qualities, it is of course why we wish to propose you linen in our technical pieces in order to take advantage of this gift of the nature and thus to facilitate your life with comfort and incomparable efficiency.
